Greetings from the road!
It’s Decemeber 1st… can you believe it?!
We’re in the states for the month, driving through Montana as we speak. There’s snow on the mountains and long highways stretched out in front of us, it’s just as we imagined. We had a few days in California before we came up here. We played in San Diego and then went to Santa Cruz where we met up with some old friends. A long drive ensued and we ended our Californian adventure in Berkeley. We’ve done two shows in Montana, Butte and Missoula and we’re off to Bozeman for tonight’s gig. Nebraska tomorrow….
On the road with us as part of “Irish Christmas In America” are: our old pals Séamus Begley and Donogh Hennessy, a wonderful Harpist from Mayo called Gráinee Hambley, Sean-Nós Dancer Brian Cunningham and the show’s producer and fiddle player Oisín Mac Diarmada. The craic as you can imagine is ninety!

Before we left Ireland we got some great news, we have licenced our first album to ABC classics in Australia and are booking a tour as we speak.. so look out for us down under antipodes! (more on the exciting details of this tour when things are tied down)
We have started recording our second album with John Reynolds in London. We’re sooooooo very excited about it, we have some gorgeous songs getting the royal treatment from John and some amazing players making everything sound beautiful… that’s enough of that though.. (we won’t be giving the game away just yet!)
We’ll check in again soon.., til then… be good!

There’s plenty happening in the Lumiere camp over the next few weeks! Next weeks sees the release of a charity single we have worked on. The official press release can be found on the site. It is a charity single to raise funds for the Magdalene laundry survivors to build a national monument and also to highlight their need for national recognition of their experiences. Other artists involved are Sinéad O’ Connor, Tommy Flemming, Moya Brennan, Ann Scott, Brian Kennedy, Patrick Sheehy, Daniel O’ Donnell and The Glasgow Gospel Choir, the track was produced by our very own John Reynolds and Tim Oliver and the video directed by Steven O’ Riordan. Check out www.magdalenesurvivorstogether.com
We’ve been invited to open for Andrea Corr in two fabulous venues next week. The first is Union Chapel in London on the 2nd of June, followed by Vicar Street in Dublin on Sunday June 5th. It’s going to be great as Andrea’s band features our old comrades Clare Kenny and John Reynolds so we are sure plenty of craic will be had! Looking forward to it very much..
Following the Andrea gigs we have two lovely gigs of our own, one in our second home; An Droichead in Belfast. We absolutely LOVE playing this venue! The gig is on Friday 10th of June so hope to see our Belfast crew out and about there! The next day we have to dash to Bristol for a few hours for a private function before hot-footing back to Dublin for our Whelan’s gig on the 12th. We haven’t done a gig in Dublin since before Christmas so we’re dying to get back there. It will be our first time playing Whelan’s as LUMIERE so we’re very excited by that! Support on the night will come from a very very fabulous fiddle and guitar duo from West Kerry, Seán Leahy and Jeremy Spencer so get in early to check them out.
More gigs to come over the summer so do keep an eye on on Facebook and here in the site . !!
There’s the news!
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer so far..

Magdalene Survivors Together
Charity Single “From a Distance”
I’m delighted to announce that on Tuesday 31st May 2011, the group Magdalene Survivors Together in Ireland will be releasing and launching a Charity Single to help raise funds and awareness around the ongoing struggle and injustice Magdalene women in Ireland face.
The Grammy award-winning hit “From a Distance” written by New York songwriter Julie Gold, has been specially re-produced by London based Music Producer John Reynolds & Tim Oliver.
Our incredible line up of artists include; Sinead O’ Connor, Tommy Fleming, Daniel O’ Donnell, Brian Kennedy, Ann Scott, Moya Brennan, Charlie Landsborough, Patrick Sheehy, Lumiere & The Glasgow Gospel Choir Scotland. The Magdalene women are really excited to have been able to work with these Artists, Songwriter & Producers. All the money raised on this track will go directly towards enabling the Magdalene women achieve their goal of building a National Monument in Ireland, to commemorate all Magdalene’s. Magdalene women have been dispersed all over the world after escaping these horrific institutions in Ireland. The last of which closed in September 1996. After two historic weeks of welcoming the USA President and that of Queen Elizabeth 11, I think this song not only reflect how the women feel but how we as a country feel. “From a Distance” captures the hearts, mind and spirit of everything that we as Irish people represent.
The song looks to inspire, reflect and bring together a message of hope enabling these Magdalene women and many others in Ireland to have a voice.
For years the women have struggled to have their stories heard and this charity single provides a unique opportunity for people in Ireland and worldwide to back the women, their goal and their campaign. Each of the Magdalene women represented in this track come from Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, Wexford, Waterford, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kerry, Galway and many other counties around Ireland, The UK and America.
I’m also delighted to announce that Tesco’s Ireland, Beaumex distribution Dublin, All Write Media Printers Dublin, Abby Bolt Graphic Designer and Believe Digital online distributors London along with song writer Julie Gold have given their services for this charity single entirely free.
Magdalene Survivors Together has also begun an online facebook campaign to get this track to Number1 and we currently have over 7, 000 people following us. We have devised a special Music video, which will go live on You Tube the day the track is officially launched and the Charity single will be available in all Tesco Ireland stores from the 31st May 2011 or to download online worldwide from all good Music stores such as iTunes, Amazon, HMV, Virgin and many more.
The women despite numerous efforts have never received an official apology from the Irish State or The Religious Orders for the injustice they suffered. Stripped of dignity, Human Rights and forced into slave labour as young teenagers, it is time that Irish people and others help these women and give them a voice. We have a chance to make a difference and I’m hoping you can help us with this worthy cause. Everybody associated to this track has worked entirely for free. The single will be Officially Launched in Dublin on the 31st May 2011.
For more information and details please don’t hesitate to contact Steven O’ Riordan Director and Producer on the numbers above. Or Gerard Boland on 00353851467034, you can also check the women and their stories on their web page detailed below. We hope you can help us, make a difference.
Regards,
Steven O’ Riordan
